We recently travelled through Botswana & had a not so fun experience with the Police at the Foot & Mouth checkpoint located 60km north of Nata or 240km south of Kasane. Here's how it played out so hopefully other traveller can avoid the same issue.
When you arrive at the Foot & Mouth checkpoints there will be two 'Stop' signs, make sure you stop at both even if there is a police officer standing at the second 'Stop' sign waving you to come forward. Stop at both of them. We did this, however…
I should have written this ages ago - just wanted to give a shout out to Drive Botswana who were fantastic arranging our trip last summer. We are a Canadian family of 4 (two adults, two kids aged (then)9 & 11) and after looking on Thorntree, contacting numerous companies, considering some self-drive and some tour options, eventually we settled on working with Drive Botswana to arrange our tour. Amazing.
We flew into Jo-burg, travelled north through eastern Botswana with our Hilux and…
Route travelled: Victoria Falls Town, Zimbabwe-Kasane-Nata-Maun (for Okavango Delta)-Ghanzi-Charlstown (for Mamuna border post)-Gobabis, Namibia and on to Windhoek
Visited: Chobe NP and Okavango Delta
Travel period: Feb/Mar 2016
Our two regions we visited in Botswana were very beautiful. The Chobe boat trip was one of the best wildlife experiences we had outside of Serengeti. The Okavango Delta visit took place only because we happened to be in the region. It only gave us a flavour for things…
I have never been on a safari. I plan to visit with my wife and 10 year old daughter and also possibly my parents. I was thinking of travelling around US thanksgiving holidays and hence late November. It seems to be the beginning of the rainy season there and warm and humid. Question gets asked so why Botswana for the first time and tbh I was thinking about it cause it seemed more secluded and combined different experiences including night safari, walking safari, mokoro, etc. We were looking at…
I will do a passage from Botswana on October.
I am older, in good health, alone. I travel light, without vehicle, so cannot carry my own tent.
This is my time planning:
Oct. 11: Travel from Livingstone Zambia to Kasane. (accom. at Thebe River Safaris).
Oct. 12: Kasane, visit Chobe park.
Oct. 13: Travel from Kasane to Maun. This leg is long and any suggestions welcome.
Oct. 14 and next day,
Oct. 15: Hopefully do a two overnights safari to Okavango Delta. Still searching about these…
Hi there dear travellers,
I am preparing my travel to south-central Africa on October.
The most difficult place to find accomodation proved to be Kasane. Will like to spend two nights there.
I am without vehicle and without my own tent (cannot carry, I travel light).
Any suggestion will be appreciated,
thanks in advance,
Hi all, i welcome your suggestions to schedule our trip selfdrive in a tented 4x4 in august in Botswana and ask to share a panoramic flight.
The first thing->Unlike Namibia, in Botswana its very hard to find campsites inside the parks. So, after asking the main companies we have booking six days in tshaa campsites, after that, three days without nothing booked, and finally another three days in tshaa campsites. So we have three days without any booking. Any suggestion of campsites to fill these…
Hello to everybody.
I seldom book in advance my accomodations, however, a little while ago, I was attracted by an opportunity which seemed too good to be true, and I fixed a kind of mini-suites in a good quality hotel in Gaborone, (Masa Square Hotel) at a ridiculous price. So low (-86%) that now I'm afraid that there might be something wrong...
Have you ever had similar experiences? Should I write to the hotel to see if everything is ok, or is it just better to wait and see when I arrive there?
Leaving Pretoria early June I have a seat available in my 4x4 heading up to the Okavango either via Krueger Park or the Trans Kalagadi Park possibly the Kalahari Park or Etosha can be discussed. Share diesel, Park and camping fees. You will need your own tent etc. Cooking facilities available (no fridge). For easy going chill person.
Will be arriving at Livingstone Falls in July after 2 weeks in Tanzania/Kenya (Safari).
Question is as follows. After spending one night (?) at Victoria Falls, we (family) have 5 nights left before we fly home. Should we...
A - Spend 5 nights in the Okavango Delta area?
B - Spend 5 nights in the Chobe area?
C - Split the time between the Delta & Chobe? (say... 3 nights in the Delta/2 at Chobe).
We would have already spent time on Safari in East Africa so looking for a different style of…
