A nice and light jacket
The first thing I noticed was how lightweight this jacket was. It was so light that I was skeptical that it could be very warm and durable. However, having just come back from a ski trip, I can say that the jacket holds up very well. I wore it through heavy rain and snow, and the jacket has proven to be very durable and entirely water resistant. For such a light jacket, it stays amazingly warm. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. My only complaint is that the zipper is difficult to align just right, so sometimes it may be difficult to zip up.
Great Jacket
Warm, comforatble, and great range of motion. Got this jacket to replace another old jacket -- this jacket is great. I would highly recommend and buy again.
On my second one...
thanks to an certain airline's luggage handling - and after shopping around for a replacement, I went back and like the updated one even more than my original (from several years ago). Very light, yet very warm. I can use this as my primary winter jacket, yet find myself wearing it on the couch for hours after I forgot to take it off (it's so cozy). The insulated hood is cut to fit nice and close around the face, making it act warmer than even the PrimaLoft is probably rated for. Super light weight for adding to a bag when traveling or if you want to take it off to carry. Somewhat water resistent, but I add a hard shell over it when planning to be in the rain - which brings me to probably my favorite aspect, and the one that made me go back to this instead of a certain puffy jacket from another brand - the fit is slimmer and fits like it was custom made for me, without the hood being too tight when used or even when just zipped all the way up (which is another issue I had with you-know-who's puffy options). I am 6' 170 a large fits my athletic frame perfectly, but if you much taller or have abnormally long arms, the sleeves may be a tad short for your liking. I never had any problems with ripping or tearing, though I wouldn't pick this as my primary shell to hike through forests either. Exterior Napoleon pocket is endlessly useful.
Great Jacket, Lightweight, Comfy
Fits true to size. It's warm for how light it is. I climb so mobility and light weight are important. This is the second Redpoint Optimus I have bought if that tells you anything. Would recommend to anyone looking for a packable warm alternative to down. The hood is a nice feature.
Redpoint Optimus
Exactly as advertised, athletic fit, compact and light-weight. The zipper isn't the best quality but everything else is pure Northface. This won't keep you warm on a cold February Chicago night but is exactly what you need while making your next alpine approach with the proper layering.
