Great Looking Jacket!
This jacket is perfect! Extremely light weight, but warm. Folds to pocket size. Looks great on - but it runs large. A small is really a big medium. Empire blue is a great color - definitely not too shiny.
a very good jacket for cold weather
i brought this jacket for korean cold weather. it feels almost weightless when you wear it but very warm. i usually wear it with nothing but a t-shirt on. the material looks shiny but feels good to touch. the built quality is excellent.
Great Jacket
Wanted something light but very warm and i got with the North Face Dies jacket. Good looking with a great fit. I like the pull cords in the pockets to tighten the jacket around the waist. The 800 fill sold me. Great buy.
The North Face Diez Jacket
I wanted write a detailed review regarding the Men's "The North Face Diez Jacket." Sizing: This jacket is a lightweight, "slightly below the waist" jacket for active winter sporting activities. My first reaction when I opened the box was "boy is that it?" It is truly a very light-weight jacket that may be considered an alternative to fleece jackets. I'm Built more like a bodybuilder; about 5'8" around 210lbs. Big arms (19+ inches) , big neck (18") big chest, and smaller waist (34+ inch) waist, along with 34.5"-35 inch - arm/sleeve length. A Size XL was somewhat snug around the back (lats) and arms. I could however, fit a compression t-shirt and mock turtle neck (Under Armour - cold/compression gear) underneath. With the additional length in the lumber region; reaching overhead did not ride up and expose my lower back to the cold. The waist fit with extra room to spare. My Suggestion - if you like layering (e.g. a 200 weight or greater - fleece jacket), then consider going one size up. Quality: I have other jackets made of Pertex. The Description states "Pertex -Syncro," however, mine was made out of Pertex "Quantum" material. What's the difference, you would have to ask the experts at Altrec. It appears rather thin, however, this is a rip-stop type of material. It does have a rather "shiny" appearance to it. (For some, it might just be a deal breaker - in choosing not to get the jacket). The outer material has a DWR Coating, however, as with all DWR coatings, especially after repeated washings, the coating does wear off. (Aftermarket - DWR coatings specific for nylon/down material (e.g. TechWash) can be re-applied for water-repellency and increase the life expectancy of the jacket - (Just follow the directions on the back of the bottle). I wouldn't consider wearing this jacket if conditions/activites entail "rock-climbing" or hiking through "thick brush" in colder climates. Would recommend utilizing a durable waterproof outershell - like gore-tex proshell, or waterproof coated cordura-type outershell (e.g. Carhartt). Warmth: With a T-Shirt and Under Armour (mock-Turtle neck - compression gear) I was able to wear this down to 15 to 20 degrees F (Walking; 30-45 minutes with minimal wind (wind gust up to 10mph). It kept my entire trunk and arms - warm, without overheating. With the Elastic drawcord hem and front wind flap beneath the zipper, I was able to keep out the updrafts. This isn't the type of jacket that is going to replace the "expedition parka - that only comes out once in a blue moon, for Antartic Excursions." The cuffs are made of "elastic mateial." I don't know if it would hold to the "washing machine test." I did feel a slight updraft from the wrists, considering that I could not cinch the wrists tightly. But with Gauntlet-styled winter gloves, that solved the problem. Style/Function: As previously stated, the outer "Pertex" material has a rather "Shiny" appearance (it might turn some buyer off because of this). I chose the "Empire - blue" color (considering the fact that I have about a hundred "black/dark-colored" jackets in my closet). It does have a more "athletic" fit to it. Although this is considered an 800 down fill jacket, this is not the typical "Michelin-Man" puffy- down jacket that one is usually accustomed to. The jacket is more "stream-lined" and fashionable. The jacket is of the "minimalist" type. It has 2 outer side pockets (one pocket doubles as a carrying-case for the jacket itself). One can adjust the drawstring Hem - while both hands are in the pockets. The Pockets however, are NOT "Fleeced lined." The Front Zipper is a single full-type zipper, however, rather small. It does have a full wind-flap behind to prevent updrafts. Because of the smaller zipper, the fabric is very close to the zipper mechanism, and can easily catch on the fabric. (I have have other North Face Jackets with a similar design - with issues of having the zipper - being caught on the fabric, hence, jamming the zipper). Often difficult trying to free the zipper. I have even had to "Retire" one North Face Jacket - Because the "Pull Mechanism - "Broke off" from the zipper itself due to "Hardware Failure." There are NO inside Mesh/napoleon pockets to stash other gear (e.g. gloves or water bottles - Due to the cut of the jacket, I would think it would be difficult to zip the jacket - even if it did have inner mesh pockets). Overall, I would rate this jacket a 4 out of 5 stars. A 4/5 for Warmth; 3/5 for Style and Function and 4/5 for Size. Hope this review was helpful. I was lucky enough to buy this jacket at Altrec - on Sale for $148+ dollars . It was shipped to me within 4 business days from the Warehouse to Baltimore, MD. If you like the "North Face" Brand and can find this jacket on "Sale," then by all means, it's a good buy. Kind Regards, AL - PAC
Great Jacket
This North Face Diez Jacket is great. For a light weight jacket - this is a great buy. I am 5' 10" and 175. The medium fits great. For the winter months in Chicago, this coat was warm with a base layer. The only thing that is tough getting used to is the shiny look. Also, I would add fleece for the pockets to keep your hands warmer. Overall a warm down jacket without the bulk. Certainly great for kicking around Chicago when it is cold!
