The Riva hiking shoe is built on a strong, solid foundation; the Vibram sole is better than most, with a heel cup that adds stability, and a toe cap that gives protection up front. It is leather-lined, with good support around the ankle and a nicely padded, gusseted tongue. I have worn them all day with comfort, and the venting is effective without using mesh material. I am tall, and wear a 13; I usually prefer a mid-high boot to a shoe. I always want protection for my ankles, and am surprised how good this feels. At first, I thought I'd like a little more width, but I think this is going to stretch to fit just right. I feel no binding, and have walked all day through the city. They stayed dry in the rain -- no snow yet.
