The Perfect Answer to My Need
My wife is a visiting nurse who routinely travels 200+ miles per day in some fairly remote country. Most of her patients are elderly and rarely have their driveways or walkways cleared of snow and ice, many of them being homebound. These overshoes work perfectly for her, giving her sure footing on slippery paths while allowing her to instantly remove them upon entering the home, keeping her "nursy" shoes clean and dry. A great product for ice! One caveat: They are NOT suitable for real back country treking in deep, unpacked snow. If this is your goal, get real crampons!
Wonderful Wonderful
I bought these for my husband for Christmas. He feel on the ice in Dec.2007 and broke his knee. He has be fearful of falling again so I thought these would lessen his fear. He loves them and says he feels safe walking on ice and snow for his job which is security for a company where he has to walk outside alot. The only problem was I order him a size to fit normal shoes but he wears workboots so we had to order one size larger. We had no problem returning them but it was our reponsibilty which cost us 10.00 so be sure to take into consideration if there might be a size difference. All in all we are very satisfied with these boots.
Overshoe is a great idea, but be careful with sizing
I like to wear sneakers year round, and I liked the idea of having an overshoe that would keep my sneakers dry and I could take off once I got to my destination. I bought these early in the season, so I haven't had a chance to try these out yet, but I was surprised about the sizing. I wear a size 7 womens shoe, so I ordered the small, but it was too tight around the calf if I kept my pants tucked in. I returned them for a medium, which feels fine around the calf, but is big around the sole. I'll keep these, because I think they'll work just fine for my needs, which are basically just to get around the neighborhood on slippery, snowy days.
Size Chart was wrong, Boot Design So-So
The orginal Stabilicers are excellent, however the overshoes disappointed and got returned. Here's why: 1) The Overshoe size chart says men's Large is for shoes sizes 10.5 to 12. But what you get is for shoe sizes 9.5 to 11; says so right on the box. 2) The steel studs of the Overshoe are placed only along the outer edge of the very wide sole, where the highest pressures will not be applied. The studs on the original Stabilicers, by contrast, are set farther in, offering a good deal more traction. 3) The studs on the original Stabilicers thread into the rubber base directly, with threads very much like sheet metal screws. However, the studs on the overshoes have much finer threads, which furthermore mate with steel sockets bonded into the rubber soles. Wear down the studs at the heel end, and you will probably compromise the sockets, too, so that you may not be able to replace the heel-end studs.
