Full-foot cushioning, anti-bunching fit technology, and wide-ranging temperature regulation.
Ideal for a climb of Mount Rainier, or that trip-of-a-lifetime trek in the Himalayas, the SmartWool Mountaineering Xtra Heavy Mid-Calf sock bathes your feet in high altitude comfort. The unique SmartWool fibers have the ability to keep feet warm and dry when the temperature drops and perspiration free when the temperature rises. This is due to the fiber's fast moisture moving characteristics, transporting water before it condenses while still in the vapor stage. The SmartWool Mountaineering Xtra Heavy Mid-Calf sock not only cushions the bottom of the foot, but the top of the foot too. This aids in protecting the foot from pressure caused by stiff boot uppers, crampon straps, and impact from kicking steps up long couloirs. Another feature of great value is the arch and ankle bracing - areas of increased spandex content to comfortably hug the foot and eliminate sock movement and bunching. After all, the last thing you want to worry about is an annoying wrinkle in your socks buried within your boots, crampons, and gaiters.

Bought these for ice climbing as well as a winter ascent on Mt Washington. They are indeed thick and so cushion really well. I had new shoes and new socks and not once did I feel chafing or bunching. So no blisters at all - which is a huge plus. On the minus side -- my feet were cold way too much while wearing these. I originally bought two pairs but am sending the second pair back and will try a different brand.
Great Service & Great Socks
The socks provided the needed padding and comfort for my mountaineering boots.
smartwool only
perfect socks. i wore them on a colorado deer hunt.great height , great warmth
Nice heavy sock.
Wore them all day climbing in my heavy hiking boots.Recommend these to everyone.
Cushy!
Have to admit, I didn't buy these for their intended purpose... wanted a nice, warm sock for winter to wear around the house. The high pile inside is awesome; really soft. And they may not keep my feet a perfect 97.8 degrees, but they seem to be some of the warmest socks I've found. Only wish they came in different colors.
