Great little jacket!
I was looking for a jacket for backpacking, that I can fit under my gortex shell. This is perfect, light and compact. Also, surprisingly warm for such a light jacket. It also came with a small stuff sack for small compression, but it can also be stuffed into inside pocket to create a small pillow, excellent.
can this really be warm?
Theres a lot to like about the Gnar--its comfy, quiet, the pockets arent a joke, the hood (why are hooded jackets so rare?) is big enough to cover everything but your face, its easy to move in, its light---So light I returned it. Since I never owned a down jacket, I'll compare it to the Venus I also tried. The Gnar is atleast as warm as the Venus is, even though its lighter. Possibly because the Gnar fit me much better throught the neck and shoulders and didnt let any heat out. The medium Gnar felt longer on my body than the medium Venus, Gnar felt ever so slightly larger overall, and offered a bit more hip room than the Venus (which is cut much smaller than the Marmot size chart leads you to believe). So, if the Venus isnt quite right for you, and you want a hood and some room for your hips try the Gnar. I was thrown by the Gnar's lightness and flatness--it didnt loft up any after I unpacked it either. That said, I felt warmer in the Gnar than in the Venus, but still, Im so cold blooded I was afraid to risk it.
