I love my new poles!
As an avid skier who rarely buys brand new gear, I broke out and bought these Scott composite poles. They are great. Light and comfy in my hand. Don't think I'll have any problems with them.
Great Poles
The scott composite ski poles are as thin as full composite poles and just as strong but without the full cost of the 100% carbon fiber poles. They look the same and function the same. The only difference is you will know you paid less than half of what the person sitting beside you on the lift paid for full carbon poles.
Broke them as well
Skiing in packed powder, I buried a deep pole plant on top of a mogul and the pole stuck. I pulled it forward as I skied past and it snapped off about 1" above teh basket. Not very much shear strength in these poles.
Broke them in half
I went off of a cat track and got about 10 feet of air vertically and when i landed the pole went deep into the powder and as i held it in my hand the snow gave enought resistance to break it. If your an aggressive skiier I reccomend an aluminium pole. However if you want a ultra light pole for cheap, these will work.
