Well Worth the Cost
I have found that most other brand hiking pants are rather unflattering on my petite frame due to the high-waisted styles. I have relied on Prana for years for a more "normal" fit and the Monarchs are the best pants I have found for hiking. These pants are comfortable, breathable, and durable, and quick-drying. I've never had an issue with the pants being a lint attractant that the other reviewer had. My only complaint is that the design has varied slightly over the years. Although identical in appearance to the 2010 version, the 2011 version was redesigned and the fit is slightly different. The material is slightly more rigid and the waistband is 1" smaller with less stretch, rendering it less comfortable on bloated days and slightly higher in rise (due to the smaller waist). These are minor complaints but overall, I still give it 5 stars.
Best Pants For Hitting The Trail
As usual, Prana lives up to it's reputation with these pants. Fits is comfortable and true to size. Always a tad bit too long when new (I'm 5'4), but perfect after 1 or 2 washings. Wonderful to be able to zip off half a leg for a knicker effect when it gets warmer as the day heats up. Dries super quick, too. Fabric is a magnet for just about every piece of lint or pet hair that is in your house, but really made for the great outdoors. Not one of those pieces that functions well as everyday wear, but can't beat it for adventure gear! Love them!!!
Solid Pair of Hiking Pants
I really like these pants. Dirt and mud washed right out of them b/c of the Scotchgard protection. They dry really fast as well. These are a light weight pant, good for summer, spring, or fall. I didn't give the pants 5 stars for two reason. The zipper for the conversion is directly behind my knee and will rub at times (not overly annoying but took a little while to get used to). Also, the pants are a little rough. I attribute that to the Scotchgard and whatever is used to make it water repellent.
