Awesome, awesome jacket
Bought this jacket on sale over the summer so it took a while for the weather to present me with an opportunity to wear it. Well, its definitely gotten colder and this jacket has kept me very warm. It is excellent at blocking the wind and I have no doubt when the temperature really drops, it will still keep me warm. I am usually a size "L" but have found over the years that Patagonia runs a little small in the shoulders for me so I got this in an XL. A little roomy but not too bad and still plenty warm. Can't recommend this jacket enough.

R4 An Amazing Jacket
Another amazing and versatile jacket from Patagonia. This jacket performs like a champ in a wide variety of conditions - temperatures anywhere from 60's all the way down to the 30's and below. It works great as an outer garment but can also be layered under heavier outerwear for extreme conditions. I'm still amazed at Patagonia's ability to design jackets that are so lightweight and yet are so warm and windproof. Great all around product - definitely a staple in my cool weather wardrobe.

Magic Jacket! Patagonia impresses again.
I shouldn't be surprised but the R4 was incredibly warm and simultaneously lightweight. The colors are rich and the material is very sophisticated. The only con, and I stress only, is that it doesn't pack down very small, so might be in the maybe pile for bringing on a backpacking trip. But if it's cold enough definitely worth bringing. 6' fit build and Large was perfect for layering.

It's worth it. So thermally versatile, it replaces most of my winter jackets. Extremely comfortable! Buy one and you will not disappointed.

Great Coat
Bought the R4 on reputation - had never tried one on. It has lived up to the billing. I found the coat thinner than I expected, but incredibly warm. I am 6' even, long arms and the large fits well. I've seen questions about venting - there are no pit zips, but the pockets are designed for this. The lining of the pockets are mesh, allowing air to easily pass through and provide ample heat release. All three pockets are designed this way.
