Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. The Capilene 4 Expedition Weight Zip Neck
I have a Capilene 3 Zip Neck in a size XL and the fit was just like the photo indicated, a slim fit. I'm 6' 1" and weigh in at 215 lbs. The Capilene 4 in a size XL is more of a looser fit (see photo) but the zip neck is very snug. With that said, I do like the Cap 4 it definitely keeps you warm. It's a nice base layer to have in your arsenal of winter wear. It was 17 degrees and I wore it under my MHW Parka which kept me totally warm and once I started moving around I was nice and toasty. The Cap 4 performs very well.
capilene is the best...
i have had capilene products for many years, almost 15 years it seems like and all of them have held up perfectly. i was looking for a warmer shirt and tried it on at patagonia store in Toronto, seeing which size fit the best. at first it didn't seem much warmer than any other base layer ive had previously. then some days later i wore it out shoveling in a pretty nasty snow storm. high winds and snow. with only the base layer and a cycling jacket on. it wound up being fantatically warm and wicking. fantastic. now i need to buy another. the odour resistant fabric works well as well. can imaging it will last many many years as my "old" capilene has. and still performs.
awesome pull over
This shirt is extremely warm as either a base layer or stand alone garment. Does a great job of blocking the wind, breathes well and moves with you. An excellent addition for cold or semi cold weather.
Superb
Hands down one of the best baselayers I have ever worn. Wear it all the time. Incredibly warm and versatile and is simply perfect for outdoor activities in the cold. I can literally wear JUST this when playing very active sports in 32*F
Best Base-layer Money Can Buy
This is hands down the best possible base-layer for moderate to very cold weather. It is very warm, very breathable, and doesn't get scratchy or sweaty like other wool base-layers. I have a Smartwool shirt that I never wear now because the Capilene 4 is WAY better! The build quality is excellent and I believe that this shirt will last forever. I wouldn't recommend it for high activity outdoor sports like running because it is just too warm. Everything else though, I highly recommend it!
