The sweaty work of breaking trail on a powder day sets you up for a big chill once you stop. The Men's Capilene 2 Lightweight Zip-Neck, Patagonia's fastest-drying performance baselayer, keeps you dry during endurance activities and insulates when skies turn dark. Its open knit invites airflow and provides excellent wicking and exceptional breathability for warm-weather endurance pursuits. Details include a deep zipper to vent the full-coverage neck, raglan sleeves that won't chafe under pack straps, and side seams that roll forward for smooth layering. Made with 4-oz 100% polyester (54% recycled) with Gladiodor odor control for the garment. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

Love this base layer
This works perfect I have been using this same style for 18 years and find it very versatile from a base layer in the winter to a extra just in case layer in the summer.
This is my second Capilene long-sleeve base layer. My other is a 3. I give a 4 for Comfort only because I think for this lighter-weight shirt the neck is to long. Others may like it.
Really nice base layer
The capilene 2 is all you need for Lake Tahoe. I wear them under bibs and an Arcteryx Sidewinder shell. If it gets too cold, then you can put on a vest or a fleece for insulation. The fit is more trim than the version five years ago and has the right amount of stretch. I prefer the zip T neck to allow for a quick cool down by unzipping on the way up the lift. I cannot comment on long term durability (pilling, tearing, etc) but I suspect these will last. The smart wool is a bit softer but for the price I'll go with these for now. I am 5'6" and 155lbs and the medium fits perfect.
Capilene still tops
I have used capilene for many years in the mountains all over the world, and it has never failed to deliver. Modest improvements have been made over the years, but it is still the same basic product and I have found nothing that beats it for base layer perfomance. The warmth to weight ratio is amazing. The feel is not quite cotton, but not far from it. The only downside (as with all capilene as far as I can tell) is that it does tend to hold odor. But that is a small price to pay considering that your climbing partners likely smell just as bad.
Stellar.
I love this 'shirt.' Most of the time, from what I"ve read in other reviews, people use this as an actual 'baselayer.' I, on the other hand, but a size larger than I normally wear and use it as an overshirt in the not-so-cold Arizona winters. Love it. Great fit, keeps me warm enough during the day. Stylish. I can't speak at all to using it during athletic activities but I'm sure it's great for that too. Would gladly buy some more of them - if only the newer colors were more solids - they're the best kind, imo.
