never need another hiking boot
After years devoted to my Merrells, they finally died, and I discovered that the brand has gone much too narrow for my feet. I found these... and they changed my hiking life! First day out, 18 miles (admittedly not on purpose) and they were awesome! They are sturdy, super-dry, and not too heavy, despite the fact that I think running them over with a truck would do no damage! They were hard to track down in the right size, but worth the hassle - there's a reason these were sold out across the country and online last fall!
Great right out of the box!
I am delighted with these shoes! They felt great right out of the box and needed no breaking in period. I received them 2 weeks ago. The day after they arrived, I "mountain" tested them at our nearby Mt Charelston (7600 elevation) 40 miles from Las Vegas. Great traction on the snow covered roads and hills. Thanks Altec!
I like the quality and construction of the boot. I wore it in the house and it was very comfortable, so I sno-sealed the leather to take it for a wet weather try-out. The first time I wore these boots outdoors, I blistered in my toe joint (this is an area I never blister). Changed to different socks, the same thing happened on the other foot. I think the eyelets hit right on the toe joint, and cause problems. I like that I don't slide forward in the shoe, so I'll keep them for knocking around town during wet/winter, but I have to try another brand of boot to use for a long distance hiking trip.
