Runs like a roadie!
The Patagonia Tsali trail running shoe is excellent. It's light... very light. The EVA midsole material is lighter than that of other shoes so you are not sacrificing on cushioning. The mostly mesh upper has a toe bumper to protect you from trail debris such as stones or thorns. So you have protection where you need it but still a lightweight shoe. The gillie lacing system provides for really good heel lock in the shoe. It secures your foot to the shoe without feeling like you are cutting off circulation. A problem I have frequently encountered in trail shoes, especially those made by boot manufacturers, is that the collar is too high on the ankle. The Tsali does not have that problem. The ankle collar hits in the right spot to allow for very comfortable plantarflexion and dorsiflexion. As far as performance goes this shoe gets it done. First off, the shoe is VERY NEUTRAL. That's great for me as I am a neutral runner and most trail shoes have stability built in which adds weight. The Tsali is able to achieve lightweight with good cushioning thanks to the EVA midsole. If you are running very technical trails this may not be the shoe for you as the outsole is not very aggressive. I don't run very technical trails so this is fine with me. If you are wondering whether or not the trails you frequent are very technical then they are probably not. You would know it if they are. The nice thing about the moderate outsole of the Tsali is that you can take it out on the road without losing any performance. So if you want to run to the trailhead go for it. Or if you just want to run a few miles around the neighborhood this shoe can handle it. This is an excellent shoe and if you want a lightweight, neutral trail shoe with good cushioning then this is the shoe for you.

Solid so far, but watch the sizing.
My first pair of Patagonia shoes, so might be just a tighter fit than normal. But i wear a 10 in almost everything i wear (including trail shoes) but should have gone to 10.5 on this. After wearing for a few months they've stretched enough to be ok, but not great. Solid construction. Probably 300 miles or so on them, no obvious signs of wear. Enough support for the roads as well, but primarily a trail worn shoe.
