Not just for extreme sports
I wanted to pick a backpack for my 2 weeks Europe trip and also suitable for my future back-country camping trips. I have physically checked out many brands and decided to go for Osprey for its features, size, and weight. The Atmos 65 exceed everyone of my expectations and the best of all, Osprey has a great warranty so that I can have a peace of mind when it comes to heavy usage. Opsrey's sizing guide is fairly accurate but I just hope their straps can be adjusted a little farther. All the zippers are very good quality and the pack doesn't look too loose when I only half filled the pack. Shopping at Altrec was a breeze - pricing, shipping and packaging are all very top notched. I can see myself shop at Altrec many more times in the future.
Great Product
This bag is a great bag even though it is expensive. How it forms on your back is nice when you have lots of weight on you back and when you are trying to get somewhere before nigh fall. I have been on hikes to Canada and I know that this is much better than the I used before Kelty. Sizing I am 5'8'' and 135 lbs., I got a size small. I was going to get a medium but I didn't like how low the belt loop went on my waist and I couldn't pull it up to where I wanted. I was an in between size but I decide on a small for the waist and my back fits like a glove.
Great multiday pack
I wanted a lightweight pack for multiday trips either with friends or by myself; this pack was a great buy for solo trips because you have to carry everything yourself. Extremely versatile, and has more room in the main compartment than I remember. It's great you can put a water bladder in the ventilation area, saves space and keeps your back cool. As far as prices go, its not too bad when you look at arcteryx or something of the like.
Great pack
Great pack in every way. Very hesitant to make the purchase of a high quality pack. Shopped around and compared to similar gregory's, and other high quality pack manufacturers and could not be more pleased that I pulled the trigger and got the Atmos 65. You wont be disappointed.
Winter Day trip with Owls!
I'm almost 6 feet tall with a size 36 waist. I was fitted with the medium Atmos 65 pack. My nephew has the same pack and I tried it on for a little while on a New Hampshire trip and loved how it carried. He hated my pack and couldn't wait to switch back to his. I loaded up the Atmos with some usual and unusual gear for this early bird winter day hike. I didn't weigh my gear but it was app 18 pounds. Loaded it with down jacket, extra gloves, hat, socks. White fuel stove and liquid, cast iron skillet, a ton of food for breakfast and lunch. A bag of cut up wood for our morning camp fire. On the back I strapped on a camp chair and hung a plastic bag that contained my cookie container fire pit. This was also a snowshoe trip. I did not have to strap on the shoes on the pack because we needed to wear them the whole time so I couldn't tell you how it carries on the pack. Because of the way I had packed my gear to start it felt awkward because the pack is not wrapped around you, there is a 2in space between you and the pack for air circulation. So I felt like I was leaning back and had to hike a little huntched forward. But after we finished burning the wood that I carried the pack felt perfect! The waist belt hugs me pretty good. I'm a hot hiker and I usually sweat a lot, but not this time. The mesh spacing between the pack and my back kept me from overheating and sweating. Last season when I used my usual pack my soft shell jacket had a layer on ice on the outside of my back because I sweated so much and it froze, brrrrr. No sweating this time, but I didn't really put that much elevation into this hike. Loved the Osprey so much I'm going to pick up one for my daughter. PS we did hear an owl that morning, very cool!
