Worth Every Penny
This is one of the warmest jacket I have put on this winter. Overall it's very well constructed, it's nice and water resistant, and it is so incredibly warm! Great for a cold and wet winter day.
Excellent jacket in all environments!
I got this jacket in anticipation of my upcoming geology field season in the East Sierras. I thought the jacket looked comfy and cute in the picture, and seemed like a good choice. I am SO HAPPY with this jacket. After searching the internet, I found that altrec had the best price, as well as customer service. Then, when I got my jacket (with free shipping!), I could not have been more stoked. I am 5'4", 115, and the XS fits perfectly. The sleeves are long enough, the body is long enough (no cold-air back gape), and the fit across the chest is stellar. I can wear many thin layers under this jacket (tank, baselayer, wicking layer, thermal) and it still fits. The hood actually covers my head all the way, with a brim to deter rain on my face (and it's insulated as well!). The warmth factor is unbelievable. I wore this jacket in 10 degrees F in the field, then took it to snowy Michigan this winter in 0 degree (-8 F wind chill, plus a snow blizzard) and was toasty warm while sledding for hours. It's water-proof (though I did extra water-proofing for snow) and keeps you dry all day. MY favorite feature is the fuzzy fabric on the inside of the neck zipper. I can nuzzle my nose against it to keep warm... I have nothing bad to say about this jacket. I loved the fit, the style (close to body without being constricting) and the WARMTH. I just might end up getting another one. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a warm jacket that stows away in it's own little pouch.
super value
Great fit...true to size chart, beautiful fabric (I order the red and it is what it looks like in the photo online) comfortable and stylish..can't wait to use it on the slopes of Big Mt. Montana. Today was a snow day in Mississippi and the jacket was everything it was advertised to be. I'm 5'7" 134 lbs.--I order the large and it is perfect. Thanks Altrec.
Great coat for Midwest winters
The insulation this coat has is fantastic. I use it for running errands and getting to and from work - it's windproof and waterproof, there is pretty much nothing you could add to make this coat more effective. I also love the texture of the outer shell and the lining, smooth and strong but very soft and flexible. The fit is excellent, true to size for Mountain Hardwear. (I'm 5'6" 140lbs and the medium is ideal with room to add layers under - the small would probably work but I plan to wear this with sweaters etc.) The blue color is pretty bright but I'm glad I chose it. My only complaints are 1) the hood is huge, though this is to accommodate a helmet so I understand the reasoning, and 2) the cuffs could be more comfortable, though they are probably intended to be worn only over gloves so you would never feel any poking from the gathered edge or the velcro tab. My acrylic gloves do get stuck on the velcro occasionally though.
