great tent
I just spent 3 nights in the Mt Charleston in Nevada for a camping/backpacking vacation. The wind was brutal but I was happily tucked inside; noisy of course, but not as loud as my neighbors' tents. Most important, in the morning, I was still standing whereas many of the other tents were whipped, torn, or just gone. The vestibules make it very comfortable and you can actually sit under their cover for extra protection from Sun or Wind. I was able to put the tent up alone without even reading the directions.
My weekend home!
I've used this tent almost every other weekend for the past year from late March to early November for climbing and backpacking trips and have never had a problem with it. No leaks, no tears, no loud flapping noises on windy nights. I would recommend setting it up once before using it, because it is a little different than your standard tent, but after you've set it up once, it's a cinch (even in the dark). As for the weight, I've definitely used tents that are lighter. If you're just car camping then it's great, but if you're looking into doing some serious backpacking (not just the weekend) then maybe a lighter option would be better. I've only used the tent with just me in it (5'7", female). I think I'd have to REALLY like the other person in the tent for it to be comfortable. I also don't have much room left at the bottom of the tent, so if you're a taller person you might be waking up with wet feet. There is a nice area for gear in front of the tent. One downside to the color is that it's white and as soon as the sun starts to rise it's like someone turned on a lightbulb. Great for early morning starts...bad for sleeping in. All in all, I really love this tent and would recommend buying it if a.) you're using it for one person and b.) you're not a very tall person. I hope to try it out in the next couple months on some winter trips and see how it holds out! p.s. As with all tents, the footprint is not really worth it....just get some tarp to protect the bottom.
