Incredibly warm 650-fill insulation helps maintain core body heat to the summit and back.
If you stop and think about it, a dependable climbing jacket is as essential as a reliable mountaineering rope. A four-season mountaineering shelter can save you from the elements and a -40F rated sleeping bag can provide adequate warmth, but it's your jacket that's going to protect and insulate you all the way back to civilization, which is why this 650-fill down Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket is such an essential fit for expeditions and extended climbs. It offers waterproof/breathable performance in the form of a special Conduit SL laminate that facilitates vapor transfer without sacrificing body heat. You'll find reinforcement fabric along all key abrasion areas of the garment and plenty of internal and external pockets for gear.

Excellent Cold Weather Jacket
I was looking for a cold weather jacket that was great quality, very warm and easy to pack. This jacket met all those criteria. It comes with a stuff sack which this jacket (I did not think would fit into it) actually did. It is compact and will pack nicely in my backpack. I have to agree with the only flaw in design I could come up with and that is: if you are long waisted, this jacket will appear short. For me, I am slightly long waisted and it just covers up my belt on my waist. If you like the ability to reach your pockets and not have to lift or open your jacket, then this is not a negative issue. Overall, I am very pleased and love this jacket!!!
Excellent jacket
I actually bought this jacket at the height of summer, so a proper test of its capabilities has yet to take place. I live in Northern Colorado, so a warm, water-resistant jacket is a must in the depths of winter. Mountain Hardwear is a brand that I've come to trust over the years, and judging by putting it on, I'd say this one will be no exception.
Basics
This is what it is advertised - plus the repellant nature is an advantage though I did not trust it in downpour. It is down and warm. The cut is not athletic but is true to size. I got the medium and it is on the upper edge of medium so layering is easy. There is a bit of room - but there are adjustments that make it snug without layering. Sleeve length was true. Light and easily compressed to a small size. I was surprised at the small size of the compression sack provided. Used for a Rainier summit. There is an issue with the zipper in that it is hard to get it started with gloves. Not sure how they would fix that other than a bigger zipper - which might leak. It was not a big problem for me.
Super Warm Jacket
This is a very warm and comfortable jacket. I've worn this at 0 degrees with a brisk wind and have been almost to warm. When choosing this jacket I saw other reviews that talked about the zipper being hard to zip, but thought I'd try it anyway. The zipper is a little bit hard to zip in the beginning, but with a little use has become easier to use.
Warm and toasty
I bought this almost 4 years ago from Altrec and I am glad I did. It is very warm, even with just a thin shirts in temperatures above 20-25. If I wear anything more and move about, I actually get sweaty underneath. It does feel bulky but sure keeps you warm.
