Great jacket
Was looking for a mid weight sporty winter jacket that I could occasionally ski in, but mostly wanted to withstand the everyday Chicago Winters. Something between my light weight Marmot shell and my Mountain Hardwear down coat. I wanted something that I could either wear unlayered and still be warm or put a layer underneath and still not feel encumbered. So far this jacket is proving to be perfect! The fit (a small on me, 5'3", 130lb) is perfect and I was surprised to find that the coat feels very supple in terms of not feeling like you are wearing an environment suit. You can still move around fully and not feel cramped. Even with a MH Alchemy shell underneath or a fleece underneath, I still didn't feel like I was constricted in this coat. The pockets are all fully waterproof and details like a key/lift pass retractable tether, removable ski powder skirt, and removable hood make this one of the best jackets I think I've owned. I'd say unlayered its good from about 45 degrees (got a little hot above that but has pit vents) to about 25 or so. With a shell under it, probably down to about 15 or 20 degrees comfortably. And properly layered under that, even lower. I would absolutely recommend this jacket.
Good Thought, Bad Fit
Jacket seems like it would provide adequate warmth and dryness during the colder months; it offers a good amount of insulation without the need for layering all the time. However, I'm 5' 11" at about 160 lbs. with a reasonably athletic build and the fit was horrible. I use to prefer MHW over TNF because it had a better athletic fit but a medium was too small in the shoulders but it was perfect in the torso. I returned mine because even if I got a large to fit my shoulders, the torso would be excessively baggy for me.
