Must have for cycling
I've owned the Geist vest for 2 years in a darker color. It is my single most favorite piece of cycling gear. It is incredibly compact, yet durable and warm. I've regreted not having a brighter color, so when I saw "voltage" on sale at altrec, I had to jump on it. The new vest seems every bit as good as the old, plus the brighter color. This vest is expensive, but I just haven't found anything else that is as light weight, yet still durable and fits well. It has a bit of stretch so that it doesn't flap in the breeze, but also doesn't constrict. The Medium is perfect for my 6' 160lb body.
Light to Go
As with all Mountain Hardwear gear the MicroChill Jacket is light, windproof, and durable. It is also horse. dog, and cat proof. I am asked by many of my friends where they can get one. Yeas, it is my favorite jacket... so I hide a backup just in case someone "borrows" it!
Nice Vest
I wanted a super lightweight wind resistant layer for cycling, and this fits the bill. I've used Pearl Izumi vests for many years, but they don't breathe the best. The large ventilation panel in the back of the Geist vest works well. I'm not fond of most cycling jerseys, and there's many times when I just need a light layer for rest stops or temperature drops during the ride... and this works great so far. Packability is great, about the size of a softball. The lime green color is great for viability.
Ever so sweet for hot weather and maybe more
I purchased the Geist Vest because when hiking I'm reaching for a camera 100 times a day! My favorite rain jacket the Packa doesn't have a pocket on the chest (Napoleon Pocket)--what was I to do? The Geist is the perfect solution...it adds negligible weight, another layer and the chest pocket I need for my camera. I wore my first Geist 16 days in a row hiking on the AT last month in NY,CT,MA, and a little in Vermont--loved it so much I bought another color! The only negative is the price.
