Central Oregon has a winter that lasts 5 months, 8 if you include the early fall snow shoeing and the spring skiing season on South Sister. The Marmot Men's Palisades Pants will keep you warm, dry and smiling while others lament their misfortune of being suckered into moving here by the realtors. It's hard to complain about ski pants that are made from high quality Gore-Tex Performance fabric. They are waterproof and windproof to keep out the gnarly, wet storms you'll see on Mt Bachelor and breathable to let out the sweat as you skin up Tumalo for fresh turns in the bowl. Lightweight with a standard cut, these snow pants have enough room to layer up underneath when temperatures drop and articulated knees to improve mobility. Ankle zippers make for easy on and off over shoes and snow gaiters keep the powder out. Four pockets give you ample storage space for chapstick, map, bandana and a Pro Bar as you skin up to Broken Top or take the snowmobile out to Elk Lake. Cordura scuff guards protect from abrasion and sharp edges to provide years of durable wear. If you need a break from the snow, use them as rain pants on a cold winter hike along the Oregon coast. Leave the snow-free living to the lowlanders and take the Marmot Palisades Pants for men on a backcountry climb.

Great Pant
Gore-Tex Performance material has a great feel to it, not stiff. Lightweight and comfortable, with good pockets. Sizing - Large fits my 36" waist just right with a thin baselayer. Not baggy, but enough room for unrestricted movement. Typical great quality from Marmot.
Nice Pants
These pants are a bit on the expensive side but if you are the type to invest in nice gear and keep it for a while, you probably won't be disappointed in these pants. They feel good on the quality and build side and have a nice athletic trim to them, not baggy like other snow pants tend to be. My only gripe with these pants is that they are not terribly warm. I'm not prone to getting cold easily and found myself wanting (and eventually buying) a base layer for these pants. These also run on the long side; Medium is my usual size and the waist is a good fit but I have to roll up these pants otherwise I'm walking all over them.
Gore-Tex rules!
I have so many Northface and other brand name pants which all claim to be water-proof, they all soaked in the rain after 5~10 minutes. So I don't believe any of these water-proof techniques based on coating materials anymore. Those so called water-proof gears especially cannot be washed! I washed those gears by very expensive special detergent and spay on the new coating after wash however their resistance of water still goes away very quickly with every wash. What you really need is waterproof fabric instead of coating. That's why Gore-Tex can really let you stay in the rains for hours without get wet. I love Gore-tex gears. With this being said, this pants are kind of on the long side to me. They are slightly longer than normal 'large' pants. So keep this in your mind.
Great Pants
I received my new pants just a few days before leaving for a three day ski trip. On the mountain we experienced the full range of conditions from warm and wet to cold and windy. On the warm day I wore one light base layer underneath and was perfectly dry and comfortable all day. The next day it was near zero with negative wind chills, but a light base with another medium layer under the pants was more than enough to keep the chill out. I also took a good spill landing on some hard crusty snow, leaving a nice mark on my knee but not even scuffing the pants. I hesitated to buy them due to the price, but now I'm sure I'll be happy with them for years.
Love these pants! They are very comfortable and ideal for winter mountain activties as a third layer. The material is not very stiff but fits the bill for mountain sports.
