Very Warm on Below Zero Days
This Jacket is wonderful on the coldest of days. It is true to size and wears well. I bought this last year and remain quite happy with the coat.
Crazy warm but too big
Well, first and foremost, perhaps it is the warmest you could get. You wont need many layer of additional clothes under this jacket. Down insulation is light yet super effective. I even wore this on my motorcycle with cold wind all around; I didn't feel a thing. On the bad side though, it is bulky. You look a little like the Michelin mascot. It is not totally restricting your movement but you cant use this for any too active occasions. So if you need warm and don't mind being bulky, go for it, it doesn't get any better than this in this price range.
Warm as Toast
I had used the Zeus down jacket as a layer but found it did not provide enough warmth and the fabric was not strong enough to wear outside a shell. The mountain down jacket fabric is very strong and waterproof for short exposure to wet weather, since it is not seam taped( no need for shell for few hours exposure). This is a jacket for low impact physical activity (downhill skiing) and wearing around camp for cold weather camping. It is 650 down fill and will compress with compression sack to size of a football. I wear this with only a t-shirt to walk the dog or go around town on cold days (20-30 degrees), not a fall weather jacket but a good cold weather jacket that will stop the wind, rain and sleet. Worth the price to add to your winter outdoor wear.
Excellent Jacket
I got my husband this jacket for his winter camping trips after a miserable experience in Colorado in very cold, windy conditions. The jacket is exceptionally warm. The construction is great. Although the styling of the matte finish isnt as "sleek" it is more durable when rubbing up against underbrush, etc. One complaint he has is that it is too "puffy" compared to other models of similar warmth and price range for wearing around town. But the flip side of that is that he is ready for Everest should he ever have the desire to go.....
