A lightweight alpine design that walked away with Backpacker Magazine's Editor's Choice award.
A comfortable, lightweight alternative to similar mountaineering boots that weigh a couple of pounds more, the award-winning La Sportiva Trango S EVO GTX features a waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX lining to protect your feet from rain and snowmelt without stifling the interior vapor transfer. One of the best features is a ground-breaking 3D Flex ankle hinge that allows side flexibility without compromising the front-pointing stability. Compared to other traditional climbing boot designs, the La Sportiva Trango S EVO GTX is almost luxurious in comfort and support, which means you'll probably end up using it for backpacking and just about any other backcountry activity you can think of this season.

Excellent boots
I wore these right out of the box on a three-day backpack and climb on Mount Shasta and couldn't be happier. They were light and comfy in the approach hike, showed really good stability on screen and rocks, and scampered right up the glacier with a light Grivel crampon. I've been looking for the perfect mountaineering boot for several years, and I've finally found it!
best boots
Good boot, most comfortable around under $500. Biggest design flaw is the third shoelace eyelet down from the top; it is a fabric/nylon loop (the type found on rock climbing slippers) that will probably give out and wear through or pull out around year 3 or 4.
Great all around boot.
Straight out of the box I did some mountaineering with these boots and had zero problems. No rubbing spots or anything. I have even done up to 5.7 multi-pitch climbing with these on Mt. Kenya. Boots worked great.
Great Boot
After 30 years of climbing and hiking as diabetic my feet just cant take the big, hot, stiff mountaineering boots anymore. I am glad to have these puppys in my closet because due to their comfort and lightness i will continue to climb for many more years!
Unbelievable.
Back in 1991 I bought a pair of Makalus, and used them on a nice little snow climb in the Olympic Mountains. Although I came to love those boots, they turned my heels to hamburger. Two weeks ago I bought the red Trangos and did the same climb, right out of the box. Not even a hot spot. The felt like trail runners on the trail, and after kicking steps in hard snow for 3000 feet, they still felt like trail runners. They do everything the Makalus did, but weigh more than a pound less on each foot. The red is a little ostentatious, but my feet feel so good I just don't care.
