Ideal Shelter
The Kelty Noah's Tarp (9 foot) is the ideal shelter for camping. I still prefer my two man tent when backpacking but when car camping this is a great addition to the tent. Easy to set up using some paracord and tying off between two trees and then staking out. I also carry some old tent poles I had in the garage and they work fine when trees aren't an option. Kept me dry during a constant 3 hour rain and was able to cook with my stove under it. Would not recommend during heavy winds and rain. Have set it up for my cook and lounge area and also closer to my tent for added shelter around the vestibule.
I own Kelty Noah 9 and 12.
Excellent tarps. Wish they weren't white as that is not very stealthy for camping, but other than that, they are waterproof, easy to set up and inexpensive. You will need to add a tarp ridgeline, or two tarp lines from the trees to this tarp to be able to set it up: those are not included with the tarp. There are many other lightweight tarps at 2-3x the price that really give little else in protection from rain, and are only slightly more compressible. Only true gram counters, looking for everything ultralight, should consider a different and more expensive tarp. For general backpackers, car campers, tent campers seeking shelter outside their primary tent, these Noah's rock! I enjoy them very much fior their durability and functionality. Recommended!
Great Protection
Well just before my trip up to Washington I purchased the Noah 12 x 12 tarp. My initial intention was to use it for our cooking area while camping and to dry gear under. The first night had no signs of rain and it was going to be a quick stop camp over nite. I decieded to just string a line, thru the Noah Tarp 12 x 12 over the line, staked it out and used it as a tent to protect me from the dew. Worked great this way. The second and third nites we camped at Deception State Park on Whidbey Island. There I used the Noah Tarp to cover our cooking and eating area. Here it rained both nites and part of the morning. We stayed dry and comfortable while cooking and eating. Also used it to read and hang out before sleep time. Tarp was stretched tight over the line, staked out and did a great job of keeping us dry and our gear also. I was impressed at how eay it was to set up, attach the guy line/tensioners and tighten the tent. Help up well, even with some wind that we had. Would definitely look at Kelty gear again as well as purchasing from Altrec, your delivery was prompt and professional, even when I thought it wouldn't get here in time. I called and was reassured that my package had arrived. Thanks again for your great service and handling great products. John H
let your imagination do the rest
I love this tarp so much I bought one of the 16' tarps. with so many attachment points, you can set it up just about every configuration that you can think of. Extremely versatile. I have rarely used it with poles as usually I can find trees around that I can tie around. I have some light weight poles but lately, I have just been using my trekking poles when needed to save the weight. It is light weight considering the size/material and stuffs down pretty small with a compression sack. there is a difference of the monitor and color.
Fantastic product
I was on a trip to NC this spring and unfortunately picked 3 rainy days to camp. Happily, one of my buddies brought his Kelty Noah which provided invaluable shelter from the rain. I picked one up myself when I got back from the trip and used it as a sun shade for an outdoor party we hosted last week. Worked perfectly. Great construction. Ample amounts of eyelets to secure it with. very lightweight. I did buy some extra lines to go with it as the four that came with it aren't really long enough to stretch across the average campsite.
