great pants, solid
but they have these little darts on the knees that look weird. they are vents, the jacket has them too. great, bombproof pants that match a great jacket. attach at three points to the jacket for a complete weather seal.
Nice Pants - Slimmer Fit
These are killer looking, bomber construction, and well laid out. However, at least for me, the size L ran small. I'm more heavily muscled than the average guy with big thighs and there was no room for expansion in the butt and thighs with nothing but underwear underneath let alone any form of base layer. I'm going to try to exchange them for XL, hopefully they fit. I would say that these pants err slightly toward the slimmer/straighter cut rather than athletic. I loved everything else about them including the thigh vents, partial zips at the hem, bibs (the semi high-back zips off resulting in plain old pants style), and the reinforced edge guards. Another great product from Heli, I only wish they were a little more athletically cut!
good pants-fits slim
heavy duty construction, fit is slim through waist, butt and legs. the leg openings are a little wide; I sewed velcro on to keep them from flapping in the wind. stylish, I got the black and red; but they have these little darts on the knees that look weird. Haven't tested the waterproofing yet, but I'm not worried about Helly quality. they are not insulated, but with the 3 ply are a little thicker than a straight shell.
Good pants, but not insulated...
This is a high quality pant, no question, but on Altrec's site it's listed as an insulated pant. Just not the case. My pair just arrived and very clearly describes the pants as a "Protective Shell" and inspection reveals some mesh in the seat and by the knees, but a single shell layer throughout. No insulation. If I had been looking for a non-insulated protective shell and if it was properly categorized on this website I would have given the pants 3 or 4 stars. The brown ones are good looking and feel well built. The waist comes up a little higher than I would like, but not bad. As the other review mentioned these pants are cut relatively tight in the thigh. I'm 6'1" 175lbs, so not a particularly big guy, but with strong bump-skiing legs. With a medium weight insulating layer on, mobility is unacceptably restricted. So, bottom line, if you're looking for a well built protective, uninsulated layer, and your thighs aren't particularly big this might be a great pant for you. Otherwise it might be better to keep looking.
