Love This Pack
I got this pack for trekking in Peru. The large is 38L and larger than carry-on size, but I've only had a problem with carrying on once. I don't mind the roll-top. The pack is cavernous. I love the stuff-it pocket for stashing my parka. The suspension system is the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a bag of this size. The trampoline panel forces the bag off your back and you don't sweat as much. The only caveat is that the sleeve for hydration takes up a lot of room. If you've got a lot of stuff, use a water bottle.

Almost perfect
I wanted a pack for long day hikes or weekend backpacking. This pack works great for both. I've done some summiting day hikes and off trail day hikes and it has more than enough room for water, food, extra clothing, rope, and other small items. It cinches down nicely too if there is excess room. I have not done a weekend trip yet, but all my gear fits, so I don't forsee any problems. Its definitely comfortable, great quality, build, and design. I retired my Osprey Atmos 35 because of its squeaky frame, this z35r has no squeaks, its heavier, more comfortable, and holds slighly more gear. I have to knock gregory just a bit because the bottom material isn't tough enough. I did some rugged offtrail hikes and a speck sized hole was created from abrasion of rocks. I've done many hikes like this and I've never seen this happen so soon, but I have to say I'm pretty rough on my gear and this pack did withstand alot of branches and cactus poking at it. Second knock, straps should be slightly more expandable for larger gear, but it gets the job done.
