Like Putting on Armor!
I waited 5 years to buy a Filson Tin Cloth Packer Coat because I could never afford one. This year with a better paying job, I was able to squeeze enough money out to buy one. But I gained a lot of weight in recent years so I needed at least a 3XL. I noticed in the last year, Filson doesn't offer the 3XL in the Tin Cloth Packer Coat, but I was happy to see Altrec.com had it available! When I got the package, I thought they sent me a box of rocks it was so heavy! Inside was a genuine Filson Tin Cloth Packer Coat. Because of the coating, there is a slight unpleasant smell, but the coat fit perfectly (I'm 5'9" and 320lbs.), and had a quality like it was armor---I mean this thing is strong. I'm sure it will take a while to break in, but I'm glad I was finally able to afford one. I can tell it will last for years or maybe even decades. I have stuff not built as durable as this coat lasting 10 years or more, so I have no doubt this will last as long, if not longer---so divide the price by the expected years and you should see plenty of value for your purchase. Altrec.com even included a small can of Filson Oil Finish Wax to help me on the next coating which was a great and pleasant surprise! I would buy more stuff from Altrec.com if they do nice things like throwing in extra touches like that. Other companies charge you for every little thing so that was nice of Altrec.com to do. Recently in DC, the wind has been strong and the temperature really cold so I got to test out this coat and let me just say my face and ears felt the wind and freezing cold, but my body inside this coat felt warm, still air. The wind was not able to penetrate this coat---the ultimate windbreaker I guess, and that's the secret to keeping warm! The coat is a little uncomfortable at first because it's so stiff, being so new, but I'm sure in time when broken in and worn in a little, it will feel more and more comfortable. If a tough coat that keeps the wind out, that will last for decades, is what you are looking for, this coat is it! It's like putting on armor. It's heavy and it's tough. It's a Man's Man Coat! And I'm glad I own one.
Great coat
Fits well, comfortable, and keeps the rain off. Also, the cape and the fabric allow this to breathe in ways that other rain gear does not-- didn't have to get hot in exchange for staying dry. Also allows for a good range of movement.
