Great all-around shoe
I liked this shoe enough that I bought it twice. The first time, I was expecting it to stretch at least half a size, but it did not. The second time I bought it a half size larger and it has been just as good and a little more comfortable. My heel tends to slip out of shoes, but the Defy's heel has been great. It has also been aggressive enough for all of my purposes, which is up to 5.12 outdoor sport climbing. Highly recommend.
Better than just an all-around shoe
People often distinguish "high performance" from more "all around" or "beginner" shoes, and sometimes describe Defys as the latter. Well, I've done 5.14 in these shoes and think they are great on steep rock and more technical faces.
Impressive performance for the price!
I got a pair of the Defy's after friends recommended them to me. They fit great and are super comfortable, and climb really well. I've climbed in other brands, but these seem to be way better for the price. I'd say these are a great shoe for any beginner and will take you way beyond that level.
Good beginner's shoe.
Good beginner's shoe. Takes a while to break in.
Price Point Performance
Toss it in your gym bag or use it for warm-ups outside. This is a great 5.11 and under shoe for the avid climber or the weekend warrior. When they break down they get a bit sloppy but so do most shoes. My wife has climbed in these for two years and loves them. If you need a lower volume fit check out the Elektra.
