Fantastic Hiking Boots
These are by far the best hiking boots I've owned. I went from Vasque to Asolo to Ecco and have not looked back. The "Ecco Fit" secures the foot from the heel to the instep, allowing the forefoot and toes just enough room to naturally spread and comfortably support your weight. All other hiking boots I've worn fit too snug across the forefoot and restrict any natural foot movement through the step. The receptor technology is great because it allows the user to naturally roll through the step and achieve an efficient and comfortable stride. I have many shoes with Vibram soles. I love the technology and it always seems to hold up well. Ecco uses Vibram in some of their footwear but in these boots they used their new EPR rubber. My opinion is that it holds up just as well as Vibram yet is slightly softer with a great grip. I just returned from a 50 mile backpacking trip in Wyoming's Wind River Range. I had 60 lbs on my back and these boots on my feet. I was the only person in the group with Ecco's and the only person without blisters. The Yak leather is very soft and held up to repeated abuse against the granite. I own 6 pairs of Eccos and will continue to purchase their footwear because of comfort. They are also releasing newer and better designed casual wear in the US market. The one downside that these boots may present a user is in the wider than normal heel. It's not a problem for me but I have a friend who purchased the same style and had to make some slight adjustments to accommodate for his narrow heel.
Ecco Kolyma boots
I love these boots. This is my third pair! They are simply the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever owned. Because they are Ecco, they have excellent arch support--important if you are prone to pronation. Living in the Pacific Northwest, good waterproofing is essential, and these boots deliver. The soles excel at shock absorption, though the downside is relatively rapid wear--the outer layer of the sole is fairly thin, exposing the inner polyurethane midsole after one or two years of use. But this is a fair tradeoff for the comfort and traction they provide.
Super comfortable and ready to wear right out of the box. I wear the boots in cold, snowy or slushy conditions. It's great how they keep you dry and have a nice firm foundation with good padding and warmth.
My 2nd ECCO boot
I have a ECCO Track II high and I really love it. My wife have a Kolyma and she really like it too. So I decide to buy the Kolyma just to try it out. It is good. It's different from the Track II high because the sole is harder and track the ground well. It seems to protect the foot better and provide really good support. I love both of my ecco boots.
