Great Find
In a last-minute rush I ordered a pair of these pants for a hiking trip to Patagonia in South America. They became my absolute favorite, go-to selection. The fit was perfect due to the elastic piece just below the waist (which does NOT look goofy at all). I wore them to death and they still looked brand new. Extremely comfortable. I'm tall and thin and they looked great and were the perfect length.

Great straight-leg fit, very stylish and comfortable. Given the straight-leg design, the pants can be a bit snug on the thigh. Only potential downside being that you lose the option 2 shorts functionality.

Bought two pair of these pants in two sizes
I am traveling to Mali, West Africa in February of 2011 and need a couple pair of convertibles. After reading the reviews and not sure of what size to choose, I chose both a size 4 and a size 6. They both fit well as the six is just a tad larger than the 4. I also bought them in long as the inseam is over 33". These are great pants. I love the fact that they are lightweight. We are going to Mali during the "cold season", which translates to just under 100 degrees. I need something very lightweight but also very durable as we will be trekking between villages and will have to wear them for multible days without washing them. I am glad to see a new generation of fabrics as convertibles of old were heavy and stiff. These pants allow for three different lengths. Perfect pants that will last for a very long time:-)

Great pants - great fit.
These are functional and look great on. Love the fabric and do not mind the "swishing" noise. The fact that they can be cuffed is an added plus, and the Fossil color is exceptional. I ordered a 4, my usual size, and the fit is perfect.

slimmer fit than most Columbias
Sizing tip. These run much slimmer from hip to thigh than Columbia's usually do--don't size down when you order. I'm returning because these try to ride up my butt--and no one would call me big. The ribbing inserts at the hip/waist are unusual but comfy. Nitpick-the pockets are skimpy.
