It's hot but comfy
I work at a ski resort and spend a lot of time outside. Some mornings are so ungodly cold that if any of my skin is exposed, frostbite will form and then I have to go inside for 10 minutes to warm myself up. I have had neoprene type balaclavas before and they were all either too short, or too uncomfortable, or just a pain in the butt to get to fit right. I wanted a simple, cotton balaclava that covers everything and comes down far enough so I can tuck it into my jacket so I don't get a cold neck. This product is it - it fits under my helmet, its long enough to tuck in to my jacket and it is loose enough that it doesn't choke me, I put my goggles over it and everything is covered. The opening is elastic enough that I can pull it down around my chin if I want to, but when I do that I feel like I am going to stretch it out too much, so I try not to do that. It fits down around my nose just fine. The only thing I could say negatively about this product is that I can only use when it is really really cold. It's too hot to use if it is above freezing or not windy. This is not a problem for me because I bought it specifically to use on the coldest days, but if you are looking for something that you can use more often, you may want to try something thinner.
warm but stuffy
The facemask functions exactly as you think it would. The cutout for your eyes is large enough for just that - your eyes. This makes the full-face mask good for those heavy blower days and whiteout slashers but the thick material does inhibit breathing a bit. You also cannot pull it down over your chin (very well) due to the size of the hole. Would be best for the heavy/cold conditions.
