Optimizing a blend of focused and peripheral light, the streamlined Spot produces an amazing amount of light for a lamp that fits in your pocket. Housed in a reflector, the one-watt LED throws a far-reaching beam, plenty strong enough for pre-dawn approaches or route finding during a through-the-night single push. When all you need is close-range light, switch modes and use the three proximity LEDs, which emit ambient light for more than 140 hours. A single switch on top lets you choose from four lighting levels for both modes min, mid, max and strobe, to dial-in the light output to your needs. The batteries-up-front design works great for reading when you're tent-bound while waiting for a weather window.

Super Bright!
Great headlamp! Both the brightness and the distance of the focused beam blows away any other headlamp of a comparable price. I went with the green/camo color and it still looks as new as the day I received it. Use it for hiking, camping, biking, and even used it on an ATV when the original headlamp malfunctioned. THE GOOD: The beam is very bright. The focus allows you to notice the edge of the light field even when directed up into the high tree canopy. The casing and strap are very durable and do not show wear and tear. The housing comes off easily to replace the batteries (unlike some other brands which nearly break your fingernails), but has never opened unintentionally during use or in my pack/pocket (takes 3 AAA batteries, included). Battery life is as good as any headlamp and completely depends upon how you use it. The brightness is adjusted simply by holding the button down and realeasing when you reach your desired brightness. Simply bringing it down of the max brightness saves hours of battery life. Red LED is great for hunting and for use when you don't want to blind those around you. The lock feature saves you from killing your batteries after your lamp is accidentally turned on in your pack. THE BAD: Every time you turn the lamp on after it is off, it alternates between the focused beam and the peripheral light LEDs. This can be annoying when you are relying on one particular light pattern, especially since they are drastically different. However, this is easy to switch by simply hitting the button two more times. The red LED is not as bright as the TIKKA 2 but works fine to get in and out of the woods while hunting or into a tent without waking another sleeper. OVERALL: This is a great headlamp and I definitely recommend!
Excellent features
Love the battery display to check how much juice is left. A bit beefy but worth the weight due to many features like nighttime vision, dimmer, strobe, very bright spotlight. Nice colors- we could each get a different one!
Versatile Headlamp
The long distance beam was very focused, powerful, and reached far. The short distance wide-beam works well. Nice combination and value.
Glow in the dark
After reading the gear review in Packpacker mag, I chose this lamp and I wasn't disappointed. Great beam on any setting, compact size and easy to put the strap on. I had a little trouble putting the batteries in until I read the directions (go figure!) Great lamp, great value!
Finally the perfect lamp!
The BD spot has the power to light up the trail when hiking and the adjustments to make it last for hours in the tent. Really versatile.
