The ideal light source when backpacking, trekking or backcountry skiing, the pocketsized Black Diamond Orbit lantern is a collapsible mini lantern that weights just 3oz. Packing down from the extend 5.5 to a mere 4, the Orbit still produces a broad light radius of 6 feet and uses just 1 nonglaring LED with dimming switch.
You can easily hang the Orbit form from about anything with the dual hook atop the lantern. The Orbit runs on 4 AAA alkaline batteries or the Black Diamond Orbitspecific NRG2 rechargeable battery kit.

Versatile Compact Lantern
Although I am not a big camper, I am sure this lantern would work great for any field trip where gear space is limited. I take one on all my adventure travel expeditions. When not in use it remains stored in a handy home location for power outages. This lantern has a great design, it is extremely compact and versatile. I would definitely recommend this lantern anytime you are planning to pack light.
Tiny little thing!
When i bought i was expecting a larger lantern (yes, my mistake for not reading the dimensions). After initially being concerned, i realized what a great thing it is to have such a small lantern to lug around. Given the lower output (not a substitute for fuel powered units) I've turned it into my storm/disaster recovery light. Easy to grab, tough to damage and runs an awful long time on a single set of batteries.
Great Light
Love this lantern, small enough to go on any trip and enough light to read by, cook by or whatever you might need. Simple design and construction should last for years.
Simple yet Extraordinary!
After searching the internet for a lightweight, compact lantern I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It collapses down very well, about by half. This will make a backpacker very happy. The frost on the plastic helps reduce the harshness of LED's. Pros: -Dimmer switch -Compact -Lightweight -Frosted LED -Good value -High lumens for the size -Hangers Cons: -None yet! It's also a great value for the price. The Apollo is a bit more expensive, and in my opinion, not worth the extra cash. I do not own the Apollo, but I would assume you get a lot more bang-for-your-buck with the Orbit. I have not used this on any trips yet (too cold!), but I plan to as soon as it hits 60 degF. It works great in a dark basement so far! I highly recommend this lantern to anyone who goes car camping or backpacking.
better then expected
Great product. Smart design. Very good performance. Good to have spare batteries with it...
