If extended trips or a job as a guide place you in the outdoors no matter the weather, a tough, storm proof jacket, like the Arcteryx Theta AR for Men is a necessity. Featuring GORE-TEX®: Pro Shell, a fabric that breathes better, lasts longer, and is even lighter than anything else on the market today, and offers a greater level of comfort and packability. Decorated with features to satisfy even the most hardcore mountaineer or backcountry skier, the Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket remains amazingly light by employing industry leading innovations, such as micro seam allowances and tiny GORE-TEX®: seam taping.
Waist and hem drawcords, articulated elbows, and no-lift gusseted underarms allow for full range of motion while blocking cold drafts and spindrift. Laminated zippers and bonded soft grommets contribute to the jacket's supple feel, and the one hand pull cords are exceedingly convenient when one hand is busy tending to a belay.

strong wind/water stopper
This is an excellent shell. I do not use it for warmth (except for over a T shirt on a cool day). I use it to keep dry and to keep wind off. I like it because I can wear nonbulky layers as needed under it that are perfect for the weather and add the jacket without being too hot. The jacket folds up well into a tight package for carrying on/in my water pack when I dont need it on a hike or ride. I have not snow skied in it yet, but imagine that it will work excellent as a shell. I've hiked and biked in driving rain (& sideways hail in Canyonlands!) and stayed dry. The well-designed visored hood is adjustable in multiple ways - fits a bike helmet or an empty head. The rest of the jacket body is also adjustable. I'm 6', 160# and the medium fits perfect (and I have long arms). The back length is also well-designed: it keeps your rear-end dry!
I'm looking for a quality shell
I'm looking for a quality shell that can serve multiple purposes, but will be primarily used for skiing (lift served and slackcountry). I've been considering 3 different Arcteryx models - the Theta, the Alpha, or Beta. Does anyone have suggestions on which would be best? I prefer a shell that I can layer with over anything insulated. Have tried reading through the descriptions of each but have found it a bit confusing. Thanks!
not to thick not to thin
This jacket is perfect. It's thick enough to keep the wind and water out, but thin enough to pack away. Love it!
Absolutely the Best
I bought this shell to replace an Alpha AR that was 5 years old. The Alpha is still fine but had to keep treating it with DVR to keep it water repellent. This new Theta is the same durable construction and lightweight. I can't wait to use it in an extreme place. The Theta is also made in Canada, like my Alpha. Most Arc'teryx is now made in China. I am still a fan of the Canadian made. Great buy as a deal of the day!!!
Bombproof
This has to be the toughest Pro Shell jacket on the market. It might be a little overkill if you want something light and packable but it is a bomb shelter for the elements!
