If extended trips or a job as a guide place you in the outdoors no matter the weather, a tough, storm proof jacket, like the newly redesigned Arc'teryx Theta AR for Men, is a necessity. Featuring Gore-Tex Pro Shell, a fabric that breathes better, lasts longer, and is even lighter than anything else on the market today, the Theta AR offers a greater level of comfort and pack-ability. Decorated with features to satisfy even the most hardcore mountaineer or backcountry skier, the Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket remains amazingly light by employing industry leading innovations, such as micro seam allowances and tiny Gore-Tex seam taping. Waist and hem drawcords, articulated elbows, and no-lift gusseted underarms allow for full range of motion while blocking cold drafts and spindrift. Laminated zippers and bonded soft grommets contribute to the jacket's supple feel, and the one hand pull cords are exceedingly convenient when one hand is busy tending to a belay.

Evolution of Theta AR
this current version of the theta ar has been evolutionary, the overall feel of the jacket has gone lighter, thinner but yet it performs all the functions its predecessors did so well. the first impression is the material is much thinner. if one folds it and put it at the bottom of a huge pile of clothes, there might be the possibility of a fold line being created. i had one and this could be one of the negative of the thin material. when its put to test in a cold environment, it still blocks the wind very effectively and also the rain. the main zippers also has a bit less "tough" feel to it. the version i got is made in canada, and it has perform to expectations. lets see in time it would be as hardy as the older generations of arcteryx jackets. overall a good buy and performs as expected.
what i was looking for
My old rain jacket was falling apart, so I entered into a big boy research to find the perfect shell that would last. I chose this one after a few weeks of reading countless reviews. Arcteryx was the only choice, but which jacket to choose. I'm 6'3" and slim, so length was important, as was the ability to layer in colder months. I hate umbrellas so i needed a hood I could use in any situation, hat/helmet/none. I also wanted something I could wear anywhere, not only in deep rainy forests. The Theta AR seemed to respond to all of my expectations. It's long enough, but not too long. So waterproof. Looks the bomb (dig the brown coffee). Not sure about durability yet, got it a few weeks ago. This is no rain jacket. This is a life jacket.
GREAT JACKET!!!!!
We just rec'd this jacket and was amazed by yhe Great little details that makes the Theta AR superior to almost all "ALL Around usage jackets. #1 the fit and finish is topnotch. #2; it's xtra long i.e. it covers your butt... probably in more ways than one I'm surmising. I'm really looking forward to giving the Theta AR a real world in the following weeks.......
Best Gore-tex Jackets
Bomb-proof, watertight, and reasonably quiet for such a durable fabric. I bought my first Arcteryx Theta in 2000, it outlasted my car. Hope they're still making these in 2020. Nobody thinks it through better, nobody builds it better!
less than perfect, fits a little large though
I bought this Theta AR to replace my Alpha LT jacket. I got the Theta AR in an M and it fits a little large, well, with plenty of room for layers underneath . The Theta has a nice long cut and a high collar for those raging storm days. The craftsmanship appears to be top notch and the deep dusk is a sharp color, especially with the orange accents on the zippers. Couldnt be happier with this purchase.
