Arc'teryx Solo -
One -ve: the zipper, when fully zipped up, pokes you in the throat. Surprised Arc'teryx, which makes excellent products, let this slip. Other than this one -ve, great jacket. Warm, lightweight, fits under my Fission SV. If I had paid the $300 retail, I would have retained it because of the zipper, but for $150 at Altrec, it is absolutely worth it.

Very warm, light and compressible jacket
Great compressible jacket to have on hiking trips or anything outdoors where you might encounter cold weather. Very warm for it's weight. Durable too. I have long arms and the medium fits me well.

Arc'teryx solo jacket
This jacket is warm, very wind and water resistant, and tough enough to wear as an outer layer on nearly any pursuit (keep your usual outer layer when climbing sharp rock though). The outer fabric is very loud though - think about crushing up a tarp every time you move. Runs a little short in the front but full length in the back. A little annoying when climbing as it comes well above belt line every time I extend an arm.

ambivalent
1st off, this is a ,pretty much, under the shell, layering piece. Yes, it can be used as an insulated shell, but you have to be willing to walk around in public like you are wearing an insulated pajama top, or. fashion .of any sort. has to mean zilch to you. The jacket hem does seal very easily with one pull on each side but there are no gusseted cuffs to seal, likewise, at the wrist. I was expecting it to be warmer, but that was just a guess on my part, and, actually , I like the amount of warmth this piece generates. I keep my house a little cool and this, on top of a long sleeved thermal shirt, seems perfect for lounging around. Since it's short on looks, without many technical features that I can see, you will, just, have to take it on faith that this item is worth the retail price of $300.00 that Arc'teryx asks. I got the red on sale for $225.00 and, still, think that is a bit steep., I will use this Solo jacket plenty at work, and ,I won't be worrying about getting it dirty, and,I guess everyone needs at least one item like this in his repertoire.
