Gore-Tex Pro Shell rebuffs nasty weather and the laminated construction keeps the weight down.
This season, don't just survive big mountain weather, charge right through it with the Arc'teryx Men's Sidewinder SV Jacket. The 480N MG GORE-TEX 3-layer Pro fabric features a revolutionary Micro Grid woven backer that is very durable, breathable, and allows for reduced seam allowances and narrower taped seams. This makes the jacket lighter and more supple. Laminated construction techniques provide the clean, stylish finish that rightfully gives the jacket its signature Arc teryx look. After all, Arcteryx introduced this innovative construction technique to the outdoor industry in 1998, thereby opening the door to a new era of technical outerwear that cuts weight, improves garment strength, and reduces bulk. Additional performance features include two-way pit zips for ventilation, a helmet compatible drop hood with stealth brim adjuster, laminated powder skirt to seal out spindrift, and a Recco avalanche reflector. The Arc'teryx Sidewinder SV Jacket for men offers a roomy, articulated fit for maximum freedom of motion. It gets its name from the Sidewinder front zipper that tracks to the side of the chin for optimal comfort.

Bombproof Winter Shell
This jacket is one of Arc'teryx's top of the line winter shell jackets primarily aimed at Big Mountain inbound and out of bounds use. I am 5'10" 168 lbs and wear the medium - it provides room for layering, with great articulation the supports great range of motion. Powder shirt and length just below the hip provides great air and moisture protection on those the blower powder days. My jacket has performed great and kept me dry in all kinds of weather wet, snow and cold. Pockets are ample, but not overdone. Pit zips provide the needed venting on the chair or tram on the way up the mountain. Some may not like the offset collar, but the laminated chin area on the interior works great. The price is high, but Arc'teryx products deliver long lasting value. They literally last forever.
great color great jacke
This is by far the most expensive shell I own, but it's also the Best. It is bombproof, stylish, and functional. I've skied in freezing rain in this bad boy, and was having a blast. The Sidewinder is lighter and easier to pack. It doesn't have as many pockets, but to be honest the Free Thinker has too many pockets.
Arcteryx Sidewinder SV
bought this jacket off season. Have not tried it on the slope yet. Fits OK so far. Looking forward to next winter... Sleeve fit a bit long for me, but since my waistline is not exactly slim, the large size would be too tight for me at my waist!
For those times when you need absolute protection
Love this jacket. Worked in torrential downpours in a 40 degree rainy day on the slopes of slush. On a day where my glove thumb leaked a little (now resealed) and my pants got completely soaked on the exterior making it weigh double the weight compared to dry. This jacket is the only piece of gear that kept me completely dry and warm all day. Water just wouldn't stick to it - and beaded right off. My version is the bluebird color scheme made 2 years ago and the new jackets are basically the same. Made with care in Canada to very high standards. so far used heavily for a couple of seasons and you can't really tell from new. My only wish is slightly larger pockets. This is the shell I go to on days I expect the worst conditions.
amazing, but...
too much jacket for my husband. didn't need the uber-high level of waterproofing and durability, since he'll be downhill skiing, not ice climbing or trekking in Antarctica... looking for another, more 'JV" level jacket
