Lonely Planet review for La Taverne

With a quiet sophisticated atmosphere, the restaurant of the Alliance Française is a delight to visit. The short, select menu has a French touch and there are excellent daily specials. There’s live music every Friday night and film screenings several times a week.

    Excellent restaurant with efficient service

    My Husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. It was an excellent choice. While just a bit more pricey than other restaurants, you certainly get what you pay for. I got the chicken in fromage sauce with potatoes and veggies, and an excellent glass of wine. The menu is extensive, offering many types of chicken, beef, and seafood.

    The atmosphere and lighting is very romantic, and it was very quiet in the restaurant. There are wine bottles everywhere, and a nice "tavernish" feel to the place.

    Our server was the highlight of our visit. She was so worried about doing a good job. Bolivia is not known for fast, and efficient service. Most restaurants will let you sit for an hour and rot before bringing you your bill.Not La Taverne--they've trained their employees to give impeccable service, and I was very appreciative to see that.

    We highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out, or a fun quiet night with friends. If we lived in Sucre, we would absolutely come back.
