Run by the Cerro de Plata tour agency, it’s a recently renovated spot in a tall white building with fresh paint outside and in. Rooms are perfectly decent, with reliable hot water, and there’s a pleasant covered terrace.
Potosi’s latest and only five-star opening, it has all the perks of a luxury hotel – spick-and-span rooms with minibars, heating and wi-fi – but suffers from a stuffy formal atmosphere. There’s a pool, a restaurant, a sauna and room service.
For sparkling clean rooms, firm mattresses, lots of blankets and a friendly atmosphere, stay in this old but freshly painted Carmelite monastery with a leafy courtyard and two patios.
This longtime budget standby has small rooms with shared bathroom. It’s only worth staying on the top floor, which is lit by skylights; those downstairs are dreadfully dingy.

The colorful and clean Koala is a favorite for its traveler-friendly facilities and backpacker-social vibe. The dorms and rooms are cozy, with bedspreads that have designs ranging from Dr Seuss to Garfield.
Popular with visiting groups, this relaxed hotel is a dependable choice. Nobody would really claim that it’s great value for money, but comfort counts; the staff can arrange all sorts of tours, and the rooms have quality gas showers and cable TV.
This professionally run place with a light-flooded patio is a handsome, somewhat formal choice with decent facilities, including safes and minibars in every room, and off-street parking.
This cheap place has a cheery welcome and decent location; a second floor was going up at research time.
