Lonely Planet review for Tunari
With the distinction of being the oldest restaurant in the city, this local favorite specializes in the sort of things you either love or hate: grilled kidneys (a patent local hangover cure), tripe and tasty chorizo. But if innards aren’t your thing, there are other typical Cochabamba plates.

Excellent food, great service, and very clean.

My Husband and I went to Tunari for a late lunch last week. I appreciated the atmosphere in the restaurant. Everything is really modern and elegant. This is not one of those little hold-in-the-wall lunch places you see around town. The restaurant is also very clean. There are not many places in Cochabamba where I can recommend that's it's ok to eat lettuce, but Tunari is one of those places where I have no doubt they clean it properly. Ah yes, and the menu is in Spanish AND English. I loved that.
My Husband ordered the Pique Macho. This is probably enough to feed 3 people. I think it cost around 80 BS. 3 meals for 80 BS--not too bad. The carne in the Pique was very tender, and everything was sitting in a delicious beer sauce. It's probably the best Pique i've had here so far. I ordered one of the fried fish dishes which came with corn, potatoes, yucca, and a raw veggie/lettuce salad.. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the fish (maybe it was Surubi), but it was cooked to perfection.
The service was pretty speedy (not common here in Bolivia), and our server was very polite to us. Don't forget to tip great servers in Bolivia to encourage them to continue to do their job well.
I would highly recommend Tunari for a huge, great quality lunch that will keep you full into the night.
