Getting there & around

Four-passenger Expreso Samaipata Taxis (in Santa Cruz 333-5067) leave Santa Cruz for Samaipata (per person US$3.50, 2½ hours) when full from the corner of Chávez Ortíz and Solis de Olguin, two blocks south of the old bus terminal, and from outside the bimodal terminal. Alternatively, a micro (US$2, three hours) departs from Av Grigotá in the third anillo at 4pm daily.

From Samaipata, shared taxis (944-6133, 944-6016) depart for Santa Cruz from the gas station on the highway. Micros leave from near the plaza daily around 4:30am and between noon and 5pm on Sunday. You can also get trufis returning in the afternoon.

Finding a lift west to Mairana, Comarapa, Siberia, Vallegrande or Cochabamba is a bit trickier, but if you wait on the main highway, something will eventually come along. For a private taxi ring 944-6050.
