Getting around

Car & motorcycle

Motorcycle

Moto-taxi drivers are normally happy to take the day off and rent out their vehicles, but you’ll need a regular driving license from home. Plan on US$1.20 per hour or around US$10 for a 24-hour day. Idle moto-taxi drivers hang out around the southwest corner of the plaza. Alternatively, you can rent motorbikes at Alquiler de Motos.

Local transport

Taxi

Moto-taxis around town cost US$0.25, while car taxis charge an outrageous US$1.20. A taxi to the bus terminal costs US$1.20. For rides to outlying areas, phone Radio Taxi Progreso Beniano (462-2759). It’s important to know the distances involved and to bargain well for a good rate, which should be no more than US$4 per hour for up to four people. Be sure to include any waiting time you’ll need to visit the sights.
