Visa on Arrival for Bolivia available via land crossing?

Hi everyone,

I will be traveling by bus from Calama, Chile to Bolivia and was wondering if visas on arrival were available for US citizens? I know someone on the forums mentioned that you can get visas on arrival when you fly into the airport at La Paz but didn't know if it was also true via land crossings.

Any first hand experience or knowledge is greatly appreciated! Also if anyone can give some insight into exactly how terrible/awesome the bus journey from Chile to the Salt Flats exactly…

Tourist Visa For US Citizens

Hello Everyone,

I seem to have read some conflicting reports about this but I was wondering if it was possible for me, a US citizen, to apply for the Bolivian visa once I land in La Paz? Some places say I must have the visa before I travel to Bolivia and others say I can purchase it there. Can any US citizens who have entered through the airport (not the border crossings) advise me on what to do?

Thank you so much

Death Road: Don't do it with Chacaltaya Tours!

We went there (office in Caille Sagarnaga) about two weeks ago and booked the Death Road trip by mountainbike.
The price was normal compared to other offers but the bikes have been in a dangerously bad condition!
My rear brake suffered from not keeping the brake fluid what ended up in total loss of brake force during the trip. Additionally, one of the two mounting screws of the caliper was missing. Other bikes of the group were in similar condition:
- hard steering / almost locked front wheel
-…

Uyuni Villazon

Hello,

We are in San Pedro and will arrive to Uyuni via a salt flat tour, for where we would like to continue to Salta via Villazon.

I checked the train timetable and the Wara Wara should leave Monday 2.20 am. Are there general enough tickets to buy the afternoon before (nobody seems to be able to book it ahead from here)?

Also is it safe to wait around/in the train station around and after midnight?

An alternative is to take the night bus from Uyuni but I have read some frightening…

Uyuni/San Pedro De Quemez

Hi Everyone! My husband and I are heading to the Salar de Uyuni for 2 days/1-2 nights. Our plan is to soak it up as much as possible and then head over to Lago Titicaca from there. Suggestions for must do's in such little time? How about San Pedro de Quemez? Worth it? I've read we can spend time with the Llama herders learning about their culture.
Also, I've been getting quotes from LP's book suggestions, but jeez..seems kinda pricey. Private Tour,2 days/1 night with Freeman Tours: $1000!!!…

Peru or Bolivia jungle?

Hi,
I'm currently in cusco and will be making my way into Bolivia. I really want to see some wildlife and head to the jungle.
Can anyone suggest where is a good place to do this?
I've looked at a few places but is rather go on recommendations especially as it's rainy season so I'd like to hear experiences with that.

Thanks a million😊

Best location for Oruro Carnival in Bolivia

Myself and girlfrind will be spending 6 weeks in SA in Jan/Feb '15. We are hoping to be in Bolivia from the 13th as we heard the Carnival is very good in different cities there. In particular ORURO.
Is this correct? would it be possible to get accommodation at this late stage?
We'll be travelling there from Argentina probably and will move up towards the lakes/Peru after.
Thanks

Fly Fishing

Hi there,

I'm a keen fisherman backpacking through South America, currently in Peru but heading into Bolivia tomorrow. I'm after a cheap place to go fly fishing in Bolivia and potentially rent some gear as I only have my 9 weight with me and think if we're after trout it's overkill. Does anyone know cheap local guides around Cochabamba or have any other recommendations of places to look into ?

Cheers

Sam
