Our Island Home

Dreaming of a getaway? Chances are your mind is wandering to the cliched image of silky-soft sands, swaying palms and turquoise seas of the perfect island escape.
Travel + Leisure magazine recently put together a list of hottest island destinations for 2008. It's filled with oldies like Santorini, Phuket and Mallorca - beautiful and lots of fun but not exactly "so hot right now".
A straw poll around Lonely Planet suggests they've missed out on some of our favourites. Here's where our staff day dream about during office hours:
1. San Blas Islands, Panama
2. Megisti, Greece
3. Rinca, Indonesia
4. St Martins, Bangladesh
5. Hideaway Island, Vanuatu
6. Poruma, Torres Straits
7. Zanzibar, Tanzania
8. Corn Islands, Nicuragua
9. Playa Tortuga, Galapagos Islands
10. Samoa
Have you got an island we should add to the list?

I'd definitely recommend a trip to Aitutaki, Cook Islands, the lagoon is incredibly idyllic.
Probably my favourite island would be Gili Air in Indonesia, stay in the northwest in basic bungalow by the sea and watch incredible sunset over Bali and eat like a king for not a lot.
I'm not sure you'd wanna be snoozing under a palm tree on Rinca island, you might get eaten by a Komodo dragon or trampled by a wild Buffalo
hmh...top 10, u mean?
Perhaps Kiribati, Fiji? A must see.
Good point, benedict: those Komodos are pretty scary! We can probably take solace in the fact that they eat only a couple of times a month.
The Gilis are a wonderful, undiscovered corner of Indonesia--but development is slowly creeping east from Bali and Lombok.
How about:
- Bangaram Island, and Kadmat Island, Lakshadweep, India
- Havelock Island, Andamans, India
Gili island is my fav one
i hope it stay natural like 3 years ago...singging and drunk on small cafe near beach
6. If you don’t believe me, then do you place your trust in lets say Travel and Leisure, the New York Times, or National Geographic Travel. Why? Because they all recommend Rentalo.com as a travel industry expert. And that was BEFORE Rentalo 3.0! Go to their website and check it out……..Tell me a rival vacation rental portal that offers more. This site is sooooooooo amazing. Search by theme, by location, by price, by..by…by – you get the idea. T&L, the NYT and NGT all are pretty up on the happenings in the travel industry, you should be too.
