Earthquake in Peru

Pisco, south of Peru's capital, Lima, is best known to travellers as a base from which to visit the Islas Ballestas, which lie off the coast. But this week an earthquake has rocked the port town and surrounds leaving hundreds dead. With aftershocks still registering yesterday news of damage came from Ica, Chincha and even Lima.
Travellers in the area should check local media reports and see what the community has to say on the Thorn Tree.

We were staying in an eco resort in Costa Rica when we got a knock on our door telling us that because of the earthquake in Peru there was a tsunami warning and we had to go to higher ground.
So the resort staff evacuated us up to a villa they have up on higher ground. Well, who should be renting out the villa? Elle Macpherson. She looks great! She seemed nice - I just sat outside waiting for the rains to finish beside the pool whilst she walked around trying to look cool about having 50 new-found fast friends in her house wondering how long we might all end up staying if there really were a tsunami. No tsunami came of course and by 11pm we were happily back in our bungalow.
We were in Pisco last November and visited Paracas National Park, an area of outstanding beauty that we fell in love with. We had a great time in Pisco and it is awful to think of the tragedy that has happened to its people and everyone in Peru. We are thinking of you......
OMG, it was very awful. Im 20 and it is my first earthquake. I was on my bed and when i felt the earthquake i stood up and went outside of my home. I was with my sister and brother, they were very nervious and We saw that all were moving, the cars, the floor, the lamps, all things.
So, in my country are so sad for the people of Ica and Pisco (120 millas of Lima to south). They need our help and dont have where to live because they dont have houses now and the %70 of houses of "Pisco" are destroyed. I'm peruvian and im so so sad.
The ONG called "A roof for my country" will start to build new houses of emergency in the next week in the affected towns and they need 300 voluntary persons. I and some friend are one of them.
Each house is necesary a budget of $ 800 then we need your help and donation for to build houses, please.
