Comet Newsletter – The Language Edition

Okay, hands up who thinks the only foreign phrase you need on the road is 'voulez-vous coucher avec moi'? Then we need to talk. And that's what the latest issue of Comet is all about. The world of language and communication. It can be as simple as a whistle or as complex as a 56,000 character alphabet.

Of course no Comet is complete without our Thorn Tree highlights. There's plenty of chatter about language and communication in the Speaking in Tongues branch.

If you haven't already, check out the latest edition of Comet.

What's the easiest foreign language for English speakers?

Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are easy once the phonetics are mastered. Afrikaan grammar is so simple it can be learnt in a day. If you lived in Papua New Guinea for 6 months or so, you would be pretty fluent, with only minimal study. German and Spanish are easier than French or Portuguese. Even if you do speak English, if you have trouble understanding locals in Edinburgh or Glasgow, they may be speaking Scots.

Facts or fabrication? The Speaking in Tongues branch on the forum debates the easiest foreign language for English speakers to learn here.
