What's In An Icon?

Our designers have wanted to get their mitts on Thorn Tree Forum for a while now, but we’ve been guarding the gates, as many users seem to have a sentimental attachment to those menu icons. There are some who simply don't like change (and man, do you scare us) and some who want to keep the remnants of a kind of wayback machine alive.
'Don't touch the baby!', 'We love the log!', we've been told.
Really? We recently tested the waters. Despite some comments, it didn't cost money or take a long time to design. In fact, a couple of minutes of mischief-making did the trick. We created a similarly naff blog icon and posted it up to see what would happen. And boy, did it generate discussion.
So here's the thing. We could get rid of the blog icon. We could also make our designers happy and get rid of ALL THE ICONS!
