Photo Competition - With City Views

The idea of City Streets may conjure up images of Bogart in a trench coat smoking moodily as steam rises from the New York subway, but when we offered this theme to the Thorn Tree photographers out there, they dealt us the unexpected. They snapped images that uncover the heart of the city, photos that celebrate the urban, candid shots that capture a moment in time and illuminate the special something which makes that destination unique.

The theme of the June Thorn Tree photo competition was Africa or Asia. Yep, it was pretty broad! We were looking for striking photographs that said something about these countries. We received captivating shots of people, wildlife, landscapes, architecture and even a hairdresser... Impressive stuff. Click on the image below to view the African gallery.

While travelling, or even sitting at home, we wanted to know just what you saw 'out the window'. With much ingenuity, and a little controversy (what would Thorn Tree be without controversy?), we've selected some truly captivating images for this photo gallery.

When we announced the theme of 'green' for the Thorn Tree photo competition, we knew we wouldn't get the usual parade of meadows and fields - Thorn Tree-ers aren't like that. Instead we were blown away by a whole blizzard of inspiring, delicate, amazing images. Choosing a winner was a hell of a task, so here is a photo gallery of the best, in their own words.

Bluelist Competition Winners Take On Morrocco

What an opportunity! We bundled up the four winners of this year's Bluelist competition and shipped them off to Marrakesh for a week on the road with a Lonely Planet author. They donned their fezzes and hit the ground running, all in the name of learning the tricks of the guidebook trade. Everyone thinks it's so easy yeah?!
