What will be copied to the new system? All existing threads, messages, your profile, subscriptions, mates and private messages. We’ve been doing test runs to ensure things go as smoothly as possible. To throw a few lazy stats your way and give you an idea of how much current content is stored and continually backed up in our Thorn Tree databases, we’re migrating over and reconciling info on 449,057 members and their profiles; 221,434 threads; 2,009,790 posts and 738,651 private messages, as of today.
Will we still have sticky & kept topics? Yes, sticky and kept threads will remain in the new system.
Will I keep all my profile information? Yes, we’re migrating all your profile information. The only field we are having problems keeping is your signature line. If you (or others!) don’t know it off by heart by now, best you record it.
Will I keep my posting status? Our new system records how many active posts you have. The post count on the current Thorn Tree shows how many you’ve tallied up since joining - including those that may have been deleted or have expired. This figure will not show on release of TT4, but we’ll add a ‘Track record since Nov. 2007’ type field after TT4 launch, to show this historical figure.
Do I use the same user name and password? Yes.
What happens to those from TT World? Your country will show as blank. Leave it that way or go back into your profile and update your country from the list.
Should I export all my private messages? You can if you’d like, but it’s not necessary - we’ll carry them over. TT4 does not have an export private messages function yet. To compensate for this we have upped the storage limit on messages from 100 to 250.
What happens to my Thorn Tree bookmarks? The address for Thorn Tree is changing, but never fear! All your bookmarks and links will be redirected to their new equivalent.
Will Thorn Tree be down for any period? Yes, we need to take it down but we’ll try to keep it to the shortest possible time we can, at the quietest time for Thorn Tree, to try to minimise inconvenience. We’ll add a note to Thorn Tree the day before we are taking the site down and you’ll be able to keep in the loop and check in on progress via this Blog.
