Lonely Planet Community Highlights : Thorn Tree members interview Lonely Planet author

Thorn Tree members interview Lonely Planet author

Last Friday author Frances Linzee Gordon spent some time in Lonely Planet headquarters answering questions submitted by our Thorn Tree travel forum members, with the help of the LonelyPlanet.tv and Community crew.

Frances' answers are now live on LonelyPlanet.tv, in three instalments for your viewing pleasure. Click to go directly to part one, part two and part three - or watch the clips below by clicking play. Click here for the full transcript!

In part one, Frances tackles getting started in the industry, the things travel writers can't do (like make stuff up) and the absence of female chickens in certain Ethiopian monasteries…

In part two, Frances explains the challenge of separating traveller brain from writer brain, the trials and tribulations of wearing a disguise, her packing indispensibles and more...

In part Frances answers your questions about memorable characters, feedback from readers, the future of the guidebook. And one of you pops the big question!

Thanks to everyone who contributed. Your questions were terrific and Frances had a ball answering them – especially the tough ones!

Many of you wanted information about becoming a Lonely Planet author. You might want to check out this page for some more details on what's involved.
